🎤 “Until Luuuuumeeeeeee” 🎶

The Lume Commercial Sold Me, Years Ago

When I tell you I have been fiending over trying this product, I mean I seriously, have been a slut for Lume, and I hadn’t even tried it yet. After I caught the commercial for the very first time on YouTube, some 2ish years ago, I just knew Lume was going to take control of all of my uncontrollable bacteria from B.O. … everywhere. So, I began telling everyone one about it as I attempted in my very best falsetto, ending my selling pitch with “Until Luuumeeee”.

Lume and Target

Then one magical day in May, I happened to be inside Target snatching up a few things and low and behold …

there she was in all her Lume glory, an end cap full of Lume products from top to bottom filled with a plethora of different scents and Lume products. From cream and solid deodorants options to deodorant wipes, body wash, and soap of all different sizes.

Woman on a Budget

So as absolutely obsessed as I have been with this product, it arrived at Target at a financially strapping point in my life. The point of a big career change and with that a huge decrease in income, so I was reeaaaaally disappointed when I had to leave it behind and save up for her.

Side note, as a woman receiving financial assistance, does anyone know why it doesn’t cover essentials like this, but it does cover all the junk food one can buy? This Doña definitely has her conspiracies, or what I like to call critical thinking 🤷🏽‍♀️.

Finally, after saving up, I shot over to my go-to Target drive-up option, looked through their many scents to pick my first one. And off I went to👏🏼pick👏🏼her👏🏼up!

First Impressions

Here’s where my Lume romance takes a turn … Just like meeting a catfishing Tinder date … sigh … I felt bamboozled with the size I received.

In all fairness, I am very guilty of not reading and/or even knowing how to compare how many ounces are in a product. But … I strongly believe that the industry right now has drastically changed their product sizing and has taken advantage of the pick-up option to bamboozle shoppers with the size of products. More conspiracies with Doña 🤔.

For reference, here are the sizes from left to right. The 7 oz Body Wash, 0.5 oz “mini”/travel size Invisible Cream Deodorant, 2.2 oz Cream Deodorant tube, and finally the 2.2 oz Invisible Cream Deodorant stick.

So, when I originally saw these in Target, I assumed that big ol’ Body Wash was the cream deodorant. That’s what I was expecting to receive from my Target drive-up order and thus super disappointed with the size and price for deodorant I received.

So there I went, deep diving again across different forums to see what other options were available 🕵🏽‍♀️. And guess what?! Both Amazon and the Lume website offer a 3.0 oz Cream Deodorant tube. Still pricey in my opinion and for my budget.

Body Odor at 40

Ladies, fun fact for you, as you get older, your body odor will change 😭 and probably get worse 🫠. This literally snuck up on me like an unprepared sweaty arm pit. Which was another reason leading me to try Lume. My tried-and-true Secret deodorant I used for years began to fail me. I just assumed it was due to my mental health and self-care struggles … nope.

So this added to my excitement to try this full body, no chemicals, female owned brand that promised 72-hour protection from funk.

Review(s)

Alright, the honest opinion of my Lume romance. Now I did do research and noted online negative reviews, but I was not going to let that stop me from shooting my shot with Lume.

The smell of Lume

My first Lume product was the 2.2 oz Peony Rose invisible cream. Main areas of concern … yes, let’s get real personal here, my underarms, under my boobs, and under the fold of my belly.

Let’s address the initial smell. Yes, to many there is an initial smell that lasts less than 5 seconds. Here’s a few choice words people have compared that particular smell to: “like spit”, “rancid”, “someone else’s poorly washed sweaty behind”, “a mix of throw up and cat pee”. I’m so ☠️😆! People did not hold back. Remember, not everyone experiences this smell.

I’m veeerrrrry particular about my scents and I was pleased with it.

How well it works

I used a generous application with hopes of not having to reapply again. I also tried it during that heat wave. During particularly hot days, 8 hours is how long it lasts me. And I still have sticky pits which is not ideal. BUT, I didn’t have that, my deodorant is wearing off smell. Y’ll know which one I mean. The website does mention it can take anywhere between “4 – 14” days to get the 24 hour odor free mark.

On a cooler day, it lasts about 20 hours, but not alone. I like to use this Lume product as my base coat under my arms, then my tried and true, Secret. “But that defeats the purpose” you may say. Eh … it is what it is 🤷🏽‍♀️.

It does control the smell and the sweat to an extent. Like under 80-degree days. I do like that it does control the under boob and underbelly odor.

However, I did read on Lume’s website that if there is breakthrough odor, it’s your clothes.

Although I didn’t experience any major downfalls from my experience with Lume, there are reviews out there that mention Lume darkening arm pits and causing a rash.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get all-out raving reviews from anyone in my circle. It was more like, tried it, not using it again. I call them quitters 😉.

I would like to continue trying different Lume scents and products before I knock it completely.

Tips, Tricks, & FAQ

So, Lume has a couple of products to remove “permastink” from the clothes you’ve worn with previous deodorants. … .. . that just seems like a lot of dedication (and money, Lume) on my end as a consumer to reeeaaally try this product out at its peak.
