How to make the most of Walmart Cash even if you’re receiving Government assistance.
On this Halloween, I am here to share not only a Walmart trick, it’s also very much a treat in saving money. The next best thing since the drive-up pick-up order, in my humble opinion.
Depending on where you’re at in the world, maybe more specifically the U.S., or even specific to California, Walmart has quietly unleashed its Walmart Cash as of 8/31/2023.
I don’t know if many people know about this trick and treat, so I am here to share my experience with you.
I don’t know about you, but I have formed a possibly unhealthy relationship with Walmart’s drive-up service. I visit at least once a week, but my obsession can take me there up to 3 times per week. For food alone.
A couple of months ago, as I would shop the Walmart app, I started noticing these “manufacturer offers” on some of my reoccurring purchases.
It was really quite simple. I’d click the box and fulfill whatever the limit requirement was. 2 boxes of cereal for $1.00 in Walmart cash? Yes please. 10 Yoplait yogurts for $.75 Walmart cash? Might as well.
As a SNAP recipient (Food Stamps), I noticed I could still use my EBT as payment and still earn Walmart cash.
Yes all, I am speaking about Food Stamps. Let me take a little moment to give a little side bar here as there are sure to be some very audible eye rolls when I mentioned
… Did that take the sting away?
I’m calling attention to Food Stamps here because this is my story. My journey calls for me to expose myself and take up space, even when it comes to what some feel is the most undesirable of situations. Like receiving FOOD STAMPS.
If you’re not familiar with my story, here’s the CliffsNotes version. I’ve had a successful established career in education for over 23 years. During this time, I ran the opposite direction from my childhood trauma until I slammed into the brick wall that was my truth.
So here I am, starting over. With a lot of self-work. This means, I am receiving assistance right now, while I take time to better myself.
The fact that I feel like I have to pretty much write a disclaimer for being a recipient of FOOD STAMPS not only speaks of my life experiences but also of the society I live in. The automatic hostility and upturned noses when I mention “receiving assistance”.
I recently read a story by Medium writer, Bloom 🌺, about the assumptions that come with a full shopping cart and the color of your skin while at the cash register. I encourage you to take the time to read this beautiful personal story about the shameful truths of our society and how we treat people.
… I digress.
Back to Walmart Cash. My friends, this adds up if you take the time to do this right.
Here’s how to get there on the app. These instructions are specific to those who already have an account with Walmart. You might want to get settled in with that first.
- Click on your Walmart app
- Click on the “Account” button, bottom right of the screen
- At the top of the next screen, there will be a little yellow circle with a dollar sign inside followed by the amount of Walmart Cash currently in your account and the “get more” link. Click on that sucker.
- Click on “View eligible items”
- Click on the “Grocery” circle
And there you go. A list of items to shop for while you collect Walmart Cash.
On just one of my purchases, I amounted to just over $30 in very needed and appreciated Walmart Cash.
The manufacture offers cover many departments in Walmart as well, not just groceries. So, knock yourselves out!
In the month or so that I’ve used this feature, I haven’t noticed much change in the items available for the manufacture offer.
I have noticed most products are carbs and sweets. Which is unfortunate and suspect to me. The food giants of the industry, pushing more sugar on the consumers. But that’s just my tin foil hat speaking.
So, there it is, Walmart Cash. How to access it, who qualifies, and how to make the most of it, during a time that is financially challenging for many of us. Cha-Ching!
Have you used this trick? How is she treating you? Let me know in the comments below!
