A true story.
I have a dog. She’s my best bud. We get into all sorts of shenanigans together throughout the day. Honestly, it’s a dream. Especially in these last years of her life with a chronic illness. She still acts like a puppy. A refined puppy. A refined puppy with a nemesis named Vacuum.
As soon as she sees it, her puppy dog eyes come out and she goes from a prance to a trot in the opposite direction.
But she doesn’t run off and hide forever. Not even a few minutes. She comes back, and she returns with sass.
She passes ever so nonchalantly across the flight path, that would be a hallway if it were snuggled closer between bordering walls. She does so a few times as I work my way from one end of the room to the other. Until I get to the landing strip. That’s when she really does the most.
When I land, my good girl returns, not only brave, but with a strategy. You see, this time, she moves across with swagger, taunting Vacuum.
If my good girl could speak, I’m sure she’d be saying, “this is my house”. That’s the kind of baddie she is.
Except as I creep closer on my path with Vacuum, all of a sudden, she goes full force into stealthy cheetah mode. Literally juking the hell out of Vacuum.
Did I just witness my little princess not only strategize but provoke Vacuum? I watch her closely as she uses agility to execute the play and insult Vacuum a couple more times.
This girl … she really is the best. She may be older, but she is still out there acting like a little girl. I want to cherish as many of these moments as I can.
So, who won? Well, that was never the point of this story now, was it.
