PICK ME: A POEM

If I were an apple, would you have picked me?

Pick me, I’ll show you I’m good enough.
Pick me, I’ll be better.
Pick me, I’ll save the day.

Pick me, I’ll be the best for the job. Whatever job it is.

Pick me, I’ll be the BEST at whatever you need … for like four years. Then, I’ll burn myself out from trying so hard to please you … from losing myself in you.

Pick me, to be the one who makes you smile today.

Pick me, to be the person who opens your mind to other views.

Pick me, to flirt with.
Pick me, to lavish with gifts.
Pick me, to be the one you really open up to.
Pick me, to hold your deepest secrets.
Pick me, I’ll be a good woman to you.
Pick me, I’ll love you better than she can.
Pick me, I won’t boss you around and treat you like a kid.
Pick me, to spend your life with.
Pick me, to save.
Pick me, because you can’t live without me.

Pick me, over your narcissistic intuition.
Pick me, I’ll do whatever you want me to do, as long as you don’t leave me.
Pick me, I’ll do whatever you want me to do, as long as you, pick me.
Pick me, to nurture my emotions instead of yours.
Pick me, so I can learn how to pick myself on my journey through life.
