About a year ago, I came across the funniest most accurate depiction of Latina sisterhood bonds in America.
As you read this blog, several on-topic words are attached to links. For example, the word sister has links to gifts specifically for your hermana (sister), Barbie to Barbie salons and so forth. Affiliate links are attached, so I receive a kickback at no cost to you if you purchase through my links. Thanks!
Picture it, four sisters, ages ranging between about three to 15. One sister was recording a “get unready with me” video, another asked for scissors, while the other two were quiet … so far.
In the 6ish-minute TikTok video chaos ensued. Fear, humor, responsibility, bribes, and fibbing bounced back and forth between the four sisters over a pair of scissors and DIY-cut bangs. Have a look for yourself.
Latina Sisters Going Viral
The family TikTok went viral with over 12 million views, and the world was obsessed. I reposted the TikTok to my Pinterest as two reels and to date, my pin has earned around 45k views.
Not only that, my repined TikTok still gets comments about the sister’s relationship, most from the under-18 demographic of all nationalities. It’s a wholesome conversation that you don’t see often on social media platforms. Here’s this one little spot of the internet bringing joy and cultural unity, together.
Even though Pinterest is technically a search engine, priding itself to be an “engaging shoppable platform” that has recently “Aged down to over 40% of users being Gen Z”. Pinterest is a hybrid beast, combining search engines and social media.
The Comments for this pin, which I lovingly titled “Sisters: A Novela”, are mixed with how great the older sister is for having her sisters’ backs and how others wish their sister was like that, mentioning their sibling would throw them under the bus.
It really is a great video highlighting Latina sisterhood bonds and real family dynamics in a Mexican household.
The Bond of Latina Sisters
The relatability and nostalgia of Friday night sitcom esq T.V. show was just another day in the life of 4 Latina sisters.
They’ll be harsh on each other, but they will still take care of their own. One for all and all for one.
In a Latinx household, the oldest sister is an extension of the mother. When parents are busy or away, the eldest has cultural expectations of taking care of the younger siblings. She is to be revered. She both has your back and can take you out all at the same time.
Despite the cultural expectations, it is a beautiful type of relationship. But without the cultural expectations on the eldest, would it still be as beautiful? That’s a story for another time.

The final cut … I mean, The Reveal: Part 3
As the video progresses, we see these sisters naturally taking their place on the sisterhood rank by age.
This six-minute sisterhood situation or scissor crime, whichever way you see it, went down in such a way, that it created context and commentary, like a Novela. Here’s how this audience of one saw it.
For clarity of this review:
The oldest sister will now be referred to as, “Big Sis”.
The 2nd oldest sister will be referred to as, “Bang Cutter”.
The middle child will be referred to as, “Bangs”.
Finally, the youngest sister in this situation will be referred to as, “Little Sis”.
Salon Barbie: But make it Latina sisters
- I think it started with Bangs telling Bang Cutter to ask Big Sis for the scissors and she just got caught up in the fire. Bang Cutter was probably just doing what Bangs asked her to do, to stop her from bothering her so she could get back to doing her own thing.
- Then, Bangs, seeing the consequences of her Salon Barbie idea, ran to Big Sis to blame Bang Cutter for what she bugged her to do … and held that mischievous and guilty-looking face for the rest of the video.
- They all gathered in Big Sis’ bedroom for her to fix their pendejadas (This can mean anything from nonsense to bullshit. We’re going with nonsense in this case).
- Big Sis remained cool, calm, and collected, and handled the situation like a seasoned pro.
- Little Sis shows up because her sisters were obviously up to something. Maybe sent by Mom to check on them?
- Big Sis naturally offered her a cookie to stay quiet without missing a beat. She got onto them for their pendejadas and handled the situation, to everyone’s benefit, without outright ratting them out.
- Luckily the next day, Bangs’ new hairdo turned out fabulous for picture day.
Modeling comradery, Big Sis has shown her sisters how to band together and problem-solve without even trying. They quietly influenced America on the strong cultural bonds of Latina sisterhood.
Sisterhood memories
+Luckily, these sisters will have this sisterhood situation forever to look back on as a great memory of how strong their bond is. I’m sure there will be some teasing from extended family and friends, but overall, the recorded memory will be there as a reminder when things get tough as they get older. Maybe something they pull out to show the first boyfriend Bangs brings home. Maybe, to show their kids when they get older. Either way, their impact has already positively influenced so many worldwide.
